Golden Globes – 2012

Mermaid Dresses were obviously the theme for the evening. Some Mermaids were smart and sexy, others looked like a plate of sushi had exploded, scooped up and then stitched into a gown.

Salma Hayek spilled out of a glossy metallic Fabulous black-and-white strapless gown from Gucci.

Charlize Theron chose a Fabulous slit-up-to-there Christian Dior Couture gown with an elegant bow in the front, that left little to the imagination.

Madonna chose a Fabulous green and pewter Reem Acra ball gown with a cross for jewelry for the material girl.

Nicole Kidman looked Fabulous in a studded halter Versace gown, structured to Hollywood perfection.

Emma Stone wore a Fabulous Lanvin in purple and fuchsia with an eagle at the waist; the perfect dress if she has a Harley Davidson.

Nicole Richie was in a glittering column gown by Julien Macdonald beaded and Fabulous; looking like the dress was too heavy to be comfortable.

Claire Danes looked Fabulous in a custom ecru and black cap sleeve backless gown from the J. Mendel pre-fall 2012 collection with more going on with this dress than I thought possible!

Supermodel Elle Macpherson is always Fabulous and did not disappoint in this ball gown by Zac Posen looking like the way a mermaid should look.

Evan Rachel Wood wore a Fabulous feathered gown by Gucci suitable for any peacock in Hollywood.

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang, a Fabulous blue mermaid gown hugged some of the best curves in Hollywood in all the best places.

Kate Beckinsale was in a Fabulous sparkling pale floor-length Roberto Cavalli structured and only spilling minimally.

Angelina Jolie was as always Fabulous in a white and ruby red Atelier Versace gown with lips and purse to match the ruby red accents of the gown.

****And as Always, I’ll be watching . . .

2011 Emmy Awards

And you thought I forgot???

Gwyenth Paltrow hit the Emmy Awards in an Fabulous two-piece Emilio Pucci dress with sheer tulle trim. The intricately embroidered black-and-nude dress showed toned abs and was a definite change from her typically feminine aesthetic. Sleek blond locks and glowing skin finished off the Fabulous look.

Lea Michele made a Fabulous Emmy entrance and her red carpet swagger is simply unparalleled. The Glee actress wore a sleek backless Marchesa gown with ornately layered shoulders and a romantic mermaid silhouette. The Fabulous red design was paired with a bangs and a confident pose.

Claire Danes walked the Emmy carpet in a Fabulous strapless column dress from Oscar de la Renta’s Resort 2012 collection. The blond beauty looked Fabulous with a wind-swept shoulder-length hair and let her dress speak for itself with its light-catching art deco beading.

Nina Dobrev, Vampire Diaries star wore a sensational red strapless Donna Karan gown with a dramatic train. The ravishing dress’ unexpected pleated details and gathered sweetheart bust line made it an unforgettable choice. A Fabulous diamond choker necklace and side swept curls finished off her Fabulous style.

Christina Hendricks, Mad Men‘s voluptuous star stepped onto the red carpet in a Fabulous custom silver beaded gown by Johanna Johnson. The fiery red head showed off her curves in an ornate gown screaming Old Hollywood glamour. A thigh high slit and bold red lips topped off Christina’s Fabulous  style.

Kate Winslet brought Fabulous glamour to the Emmys in a minimalist Elie Saab gown with a plunging neckline. The crimson dress hugged Kate’s curves, while still leaving plenty to the imagination. Drop earrings and a diamond bangle finished off Kate’s Fabulous look.

Julianna Margulies was Fabulous in a white Armani Prive gown with a crystal-adorned bodice. Although the column dress may have been a tad long, its sleek shape and stunning sheen made it a Fabulous red carpet choice. Julianna kept her dress the main event by opting against anything except  diamond studs.

Sarah Hayland never disappoints on the red carpet! The petite actress looked Fabulous at the Emmys in a one-shoulder salmon gown by Christian Siriano. Thick pleats and an encrusted waistband gave a Grecian feel to this Fabulous look.

Kelly Osbourne turned heads at the 2011 Emmys in a Fabulous J. Mendel gown. The *Fashion Police* star showed off her Fabulous dress’ asymmetric straps by wearing her newly lavender frosted hair in a sleek style.  Matching drop earrings and a glittery clutch were the ideal finishing touches to this Fabulous look.

Jane Krakowski please step away from the self-tanner! Looking a little too sun-kissed, 30 Rock‘s Fabulous funny girl shined in a metallic gown with a deep-v neck and a beaded hip design. After just having her first baby, Jane is Fabulous.

Sofia Vergara brought her Fabulous sizzle to the red carpet in a foxy coral Vera Wang mermaid gown with exposed tulle. The Modern Family vixen finished off her Fabulous look with long chandelier earrings and a gold cuff.

Jane Lynch. Fabulous Emmy hostess looked ultra-elegant on the red carpet in an eggplant strapless chiffon gown by David Meister. The gathered design looked Fabulous with a sweetheart neckline and was paired with a wrist-full of sparkling bangles and matching dangling earrings.

Julie Bowen sparkled on the red carpet in a low-cut Oscar de la Renta gown. As the shimmering silver and black beaded dress was Fabulous enough on its own, Julie wisely wore her hair in a Fabulous side ponytail, foregoing  baubles in favor of black earrings and a matching clutch.

And as always, I’ll be watching . . . . .

Oscars 2011

“THE GOOD”

BEST DRESSED: Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth positively smouldered down the red carpet in a Fabulous custom-made, sparkling gold, Calvin Klein sheath dress. The Country Strong actress, who sang at the ceremony, put in the hours on the Caribbean beach (and with personal trainer Tracy Anderson), to make sure this slinky number hit all the right notes.

RISING STAR: Hailee Steinfeld
Best supporting actress nominee, Hailee Steinfeld, wowed us again with another Fabulous red carpet choice. The 14-year-old ‘True Grit’ star is already topping our best-dressed list for 2011 and it’s only February. Her age-appropriate, magical dress by Marchesa (which she co-designed), made her look every inch the prom queen princess.

THE SURPRISE:  Amy Adams
We saw a different side to Amy Adams, who normally favours a soft silhouette and delicate colours. Her Fabulous sparkling blue gown by L’WrenScott showed off every inch of her enviable frame, while its high neckline, and her elegant 1940s coiffure, kept the look on the sophisticated side ofsexy.

THE LADIES CHOICE: Mila Kunis

‘Black Swan’ star Milas Kunis’ petite frame and minimal use of makeup and accessories, assured that her Fabulous lacy lilac Elie Saab gown didn’t fall into the ‘fussy’ category. Extra points for not picking a more obvious sex-bomb gown that her to-die-for figure could easily flaunt.

THE INDIVIDUAL: Florence Welch
Singer Florence Welch, who performed at the ceremony, scored a hit in a girly cream lace Valentino, tiered gown that, on many women, could look too prim. Luckily Welch’s boyish frame and untamed hair leant a Fabulous rock & roll edge to her vintage look.

FASHIONISTA’S FAVOURITE: Cate Blanchett
You can always rely on Cate Blanchett to make a more fashion-forward selection during award season, so it was good to see her back on the Oscars red carpet making such a successful statement. Her embellished, off-white haute couture Givenchy gown by designer Riccardo Tisci is just about the only dress from his small spring/summer collection that hasn’t made a red carpet appearance since it was shown in Paris last month, making Tisci Hollywood’s Fabulous new go-to guy.

“THE BAD”

BAD BEGINNINGS: Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway made an uncharacteristic slip on the red carpet by coming as the matching curtains. The Oscars host made up for this bad start later in the evening, with a series of more successful Fabulous selections, but this look is best forgotten.

STYLIST’S DAY OFF: Nicole Kidman
Kidman missed the mark in her complicated Christian Dior haute couture gown. The whole look came off as a personality crisis in motion and the usually reliable red carpet queen looked like she knew it. Small mercy then in Natalie Portman’s triumph so that Nicole’s look could slide under the radar of Oscars history.

BOOBY PRIZE: Penelope Cruz
Cruz is usually such a master of awards dressing so we can only assume that this booby frock – which wouldn’t look out of place on a cruise cabaret singer – is the result of ‘baby brain’, the cruel condition which renders new mothers incapable of good judgement calls. Don’t worry Penny, I know you’ll be back on fighting form next season, and your cleavage definitely won you some new fans.

THE CLASH: Jennifer Hudson
Although Hudson is to be highly commended for her general transformation, her orange Atelier Versace dress was doing bad things to our retinas and her cleavage. Last time we saw her at the Oscars, her ample bosom was squeezed into the shape of a rugby ball; this time her slimmer, trimmer breasts are just too… out there.

THE BIG SNOOZE: Reese Witherspoon
Reese, your choice of gown is never going to offend anyone, but sadly it’s too boring to even comment on. Must try harder.

Golden Globes 2011

Pink and red together? How unexpected…and very Valentine’s Day of Natalie Portman. But the babe is glowing in this preggers-friendly, empire-waist Viktor & Rolf gown with rose detail, matching clutch and Tiffany jewels. It’s the actress’s night to be Fabulous and she pulled it off.

Breaking news: Angelina Jolie is not wearing black! After rounds of movie promotions, the actress is back in Fabulous, sparkling emerald green by Atelier Versace. Angie has worn this style before—though this one has a more vintage feel—but she always owns it, like she’s a ‘wicked queen’ ruling the red carpet.

Lea Michele just made her first major awards-show blunder. The “Glee” starlet is kind of a hot mess in this bubble-gum-pink Oscar de la Renta gown that’s fussy and not Fabulous with all the ruffles and folds, topped off with a messy side ‘do. Oh well, all the great fashionistas have to fail sometime, right?
Did we somehow get transported back to the ’90s? We remember when Sandra Bullock rocked this ‘do back during her ‘Speed’ days. And now too distracted by those bangs to focus on the Jenny Packham dress. Anyone else feeling a bit nostalgic for last awards season when Sandy was Fabulous?

This blush Armani Privé gown was custom-made for Megan Fox, was less than Fabulous. The Brian Atwood heels and Roger Vivier clutch are pretty, but the color of the dress is so blah and the details aren’t that interesting.

Now this is how it’s done! Anne Hathaway looked Fabulous in Giorgio Armani Privé gown. Yes, there’s some ‘Dynasty’ action going on with the sparkles and big shoulders, but the future Oscar host is working it.

Depend on Jennifer Lopez to bring some Fabulous divaliciousness! Am at a loss as to what to say about this Zuhair Murad gown. With all the silk chiffon draping and the sheer tulle capelet, it actually comes off kinda matronly, a word that has never applied to anything J.Lo!

While everyone else is off wearing Fabulous, pretty gowns, Helena Bonham Carter  just keeps on doing her on style. Of course the Vivienne Westwood dress on its own would have been cuckoo enough, but she ups the crazy by wearing two mismatched shoes.

Scarlett Johansson isn’t sending out the Fabulous vibe in this embeliished Elie Saab gown. It’s a pretty dress, but the flutter sleeves make it look way too matronly for this gorgeous actress. And the ‘Bride of Frankenstein’ hair further cements her look for the night, “Fright Night” that is to say.

Halle Berry gets her awards shows mixed up! Her sexy Nina Ricci bustier dress with tulle train and funky cuffs looks more suited for a show like the Grammys, not an elegant and Fabulous evening at the Golden Globes. Still this would be tacky, trying-too-hard style.

Nicole Kidman in a simple, single-shoulder Prada gown really makes one wish for days long ago when she used to bring glamour to the red carpet. In a vanilla piece with a little bow, almost no jewelry and uninspiring hair, she is not Fabulous.

Tony Awards 2010

Who looked Tony at the Tony awards???

Kristen Chenoweth in a gown by Tony Ward Couture could not have looked more Fabulous

Katie Holmes could have used a Fabulous necklace or major accessories to enliven her dove gray Armani Privé gown.

Lucy Liu looked Fabulous and feminine in a Marchesa gown with pink drop earrings.

Proving that covered up can still be Fabulous, Naomi Watts wore an RM by Roland Mouret gown that kept bare skin at a minimum.

Taking a bit of a fashion risk was Cate Blanchett in a silver Amrani Prive suit and a long necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels. This risk was not Fabulous.

Trains were popular on the red carpet, Paula Abdul’s Tony Ward Couture gown ends in a Fabulous feather-like tail.

Scarlett Johansson picked up her award for Best Performance in a Play by a Featured actress wearing a Fabulous glittering Elie Saab gown.

The Oscars – 2010

The Oscars – 2010

Sandra Bullock – wore Marchesa in a golden satin mermaid gown with beaded accent. A Fabulous dress with an old Hollywood feel to her side sweep hair and makeup. I would like to have seen Sandra in a yellow-based red lipstick to compliment to look rather than the one chosen.

Miriah Carey – wore a blue one-shoulder gown cut down to here and slit up to there. She is a beautiful woman that could look Fabulous.

Pennelope Cruz – wore Donna Karen couture in red satin. The asymmetrical bodice and pleating made this a Fabulous selection.

Moley Cyrus – wore Jenny Packham but she must have forgotten her blouse. The bustier did not work for this slump shouldered teenager. It was beige and boring.

Cameron Diaz – wore a safe Oscar de la Renta strapless beaded gown and went with the look of all of the recent events – side sweep hair.

Tina Fey – wore Michael Kors. The one shoulder beaded sheath was basic in design and could have been in the back of her closet for years.

Maggie Gyllenhaal – wore Dries Van Noten and looked like a roll of Christmas wrap that should not go under the tree.

Mariska Hargitay – wore Vera Wang and looked Fabulous. This strapless navy gown with subtle ruffles on the skirt and train would have made her late mother – Jane Mansfield proud if she could have seen her daughter.

Neil Patrick Harris – wore perfection. His sequin jacket with satin lapels was completed with subtle stripes. I want a jacket like that.

Faith Hill – wore black and looked beautiful. The strapless gown with lace accent under the bust with matching lace peeking out of the high slit of the skirt was Fabulous.

Queen Latifah – wore a pink one shoulder satin gown with wandering jeweled accent trim. This was a dress fit for a Queen – Queen Elizabeth – the only thing missing was the matching hat and purse.

Jennifer Lopez – wore Giorgio Armani Prive in pink silk organza with a side sweep train. Bless her heart, she was wearing a train wreck; too ugly to watch but can not turn away.

Rachel McAdams – wore Elie Saab in soft tones and flowing chiffon. This strapless gown could have been a tie-dye disaster yet the craft project was a Fabulous execution

Demi Moore – wore Versace and looked Fabulous. The strapless gown with a waterfall of ruffles complementing the high slit skirt of the gown was Fabulous in flesh tone.

Helen Miren – wore Badgley Mischika and looked Fabulous. This soft tone and flowing fabric looked old Hollywood. The dress was perfect for the mature women, offering sheer coverage of the arms to keep the allusion alive. The Choppard necklace completed a Fabulous look.

Sarah Jessica Parker – wore Chanel and look like she should have been on the top of a wedding cake. With the Fabulous figure she has, why would she pick up her satin sheet and drape it around her like she was coming out of her bath and head to the Oscars???

Nicole Riche – wore Reem Arca. It must have been part of the caftan collection. This black and silver boat neck with flowing sleeves and train would be better for lounging.

Meryl Streep – wore Chris Mark, a white gown that could have been her bathrobe she threw on and belted since she was running late??? Next time take the shoulder pads out.

Charlize Theron – wore tacky in the night’s hottest color, pink. She looked like she was going to an interview for an upscale escort service. The bodice accent swirls were to distracting and too matchy in color with the train.

Sigourney Weaver – wore Lanvin in red. The one shoulder red silk with black belt and jeweled shoulder was Fabulous for this statuesque woman.

Kate Winslet – wore YSL beautifully. The structured bodice with soft skirt was beautiful. The side sweep hair and structured bodice has had strong showing on all of the award shows of this season.
